The Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities
handles approximately 2500 yearly complaints from people who believe they have experienced illegal discrimination for a variety of reasons including age, race, sex, physical disability, color or national origin. Created in 1943, the then named Interracial Commission was the first state agency in the nation established to “investigate the possibility of giving equal employment opportunities to all people”.
